Drafted out of high school in Puerto Rico, Corporan attended Lake City (Fla.) CC to hone his skills for a year before signing as a draft-and-follow. He was named after Elvis Presley. In each of the last two seasons, Corporan has struggled in low Class A. He has a long swing and is working on developing his plate discipline, which the Yankees stress. He grew up playing other sports in Puerto Rico and is still raw on a baseball field. He has power potential from both sides of the plate. Defensively, he's athletic with quick, smooth actions and a strong arm. Juan Camacho could push Corporan if he doesn't show improvement at the plate this year in high Class A. -
Like Claussen, Corporan is a promising draft-and-follow who was initially selected in the 1998 draft. Corporan signed after a season at Lake City (Fla.) Community College, and did a nice job of recovering last year after being overmatched in the Class A South Atlantic League as a teenager. Demoted to the New York-Penn League, he ranked as the circuit's No. 2 prospect. Switch-hitting third basemen with power abound in the Yankees system--Donny Leon and Juan Camacho are others of note--but Corporan is easily the best. He has good pop from both sides of the plate and should be a terror once he fills out his 6-foot-2 frame. He has the arm and lateral movement to be an exceptional third baseman. Corporan is ready for another shot at the Sally League in 2001.
Minor League Top Prospects

On a talented and deep Staten Island club that responded to late-season pressure, Corporan was the most favored prospect around the league. He doesn't have the bonus figure or draft status of other Yankees, but he does have tools: a plus arm, excellent range and hitting ability. Corporan impressed Staten Island manager Joe Arnold, who doubles as the Yankees' East Coast scouting supervisor, with his ability to make plays on the run and his quick lateral movement. "I really like the makeup of Corporan," Pittsfield manager Tony Tijerina said. "He's very sound defensively, just with his body and the way he plays the game. I just like the focus he has, his size and his agility." Jamestown's Saul said Corporan could become even more dangerous once he fills out his 6-foot-2 frame: "He has good range and a good arm. He's more of a line-drive hitter than a power guy right now. Being as young as he is, though, you don't know about the power. That might come, too."
