Many scouts view Frazier as a future utility infielder, but scouting directors recognized that he stood out in a thin crowd of college middle infielders by voting him a preseason third-team All-American. He has had a solid junior season and benefited from teams' frequent looks at teammate Hunter Renfroe, a probable first-round pick, because his subtle skills emerge on repeat viewing. Frazier's tools are modest. He's an average defender at shortstop with an average arm, an excellent internal clock and strong instincts. His agility and footwork play in the middle infield, and his consistency earned him a spot on USA Baseball's college national team last summer. At 5-foot-11, 174 pounds, he has not hit a home run in three college seasons but has enough punch to fight off good fastballs. He handles the bat well and will work walks. He's an average runner.
