Scouts considered Hope more of a prospect as a third baseman coming into 2013, but that began to change when he threw a no-hitter in his season-opening start against Klein Collins High (Spring, Texas). With his 6-foot-3, 195-pound build and an 88-92 mph fastball, he's reminiscent of his brother Mason, who signed with the Marlins as a 2011 fifth-round pick out of an Oklahoma high school. His breaking ball isn't as advanced as Mason's was at the same stage, but Carter has added power to his curveball this spring. His changeup, arm action and delivery are better than Mason's were. Carter should go in the same area of the draft if teams think that will be enough to sign him away from Oklahoma State, where his father Pat starred in the mid-1980s. He could play both ways for the Cowboys if he makes it to Stillwater.
