After transferring from Santa Cruz (Calif.) JC, Carle generated buzz last fall at Long Beach State, running his fastball up to 94 with good sink. He hasn't pitched with that kind of velocity this spring, working mostly at 88-90 mph and touching 91-92 on occasion. He commands his sinker well and gets plenty of ground balls. Carle showed better direction and rhythm in the fall than he did this spring, when he threw across his body more. But he has a loose arm action and an athletic 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame, giving him some projection. Carle throws from a three-quarters slot, and his slurve and changeup are fringy but serviceable.
