Murphy burst onto the national scene last fall at the Florida Diamond Club as a lefthanded-hitting outfielder with two plus tools. Some scouts say his plus speed plays in center field, while others think that his routes and reads will push him off the position and his below-average arm will keep him in left field, which would put pressure on his bat. He has above-average bat speed geared for hard line drives and plus raw power to his pull side, but he has scuffled this spring, showing something of a mechanical, grooved swing. Murphy, who will be 19 on draft day, hit .229/.462/.357 with no home runs this spring, leaving scouts to believe he will most likely reach campus at Auburn. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder has a strong, physical build that offers limited projection.
