Draft Prospects

Few high school teams have had the luxury that Coppell (Texas) High had this year. With a rotation that included Division I recruits Charles King (Texas Christian), junior John Kodros (Louisiana State) and Chris Burdine (Oklahoma State), it was Gaither who was tasked to slide from closing to starting for a one-game do-or-die playoff matchup. Gaither responded with a 10-strikeout complete-game shutout, reinforcing the idea that he's a pitcher who rises to the occasion. Working from the extreme first-base side of the rubber, Gaither's delivery is somewhat cross-body and has some effort, but he's shown the ability to throw strikes with his 92-95 mph plus fastball that has touched 96-97. He has also sharpened his slider to make it a potentially above-average offering. Gaither has outstanding competitiveness. He's also a legitimate prospect as a third baseman as he has athleticism, a plus arm and power potential. If he makes it to Dallas Baptist, he's a legitimate two-way prospect.
