Carter is a standout athlete with better pure stuff and physical tools than college performance to this point. A 6-foot-4, 241-pound righthander, Carter ranked as a top-200 prospect in the 2021 class out of high school thanks to his arm talent, though he was quite raw as a pitcher. He made it to campus at Vanderbilt, where he struggled to throw strikes in his first two seasons and posted a cumulative 23.2% walk rate, but did pitch well in a brief Cape Cod League stint during the 2023 summer where he showed a bit better control. Carter’s velocity is his carrying tool. He averages 96-97 mph with his fastball and has been up to 101 with lots of cutting life. He pitches heavily off the fastball, but also has a hard, upper-80s changeup and a rarely-used, low-spin breaking ball in the upper 70s.
