Gray is one of the top wide receiver recruits in the nation and made 74 catches for 862 years and 13 touchdowns for Norco (Calif.) High in the fall. He entered the spring known mostly for his football skills, but after training with Brewers infielder Brice Turang over the winter, he improved as a hitter and emerged as a top draft prospect on the diamond. Gray is one of the best athletes in the draft class with a long, lean 6-foot-4 frame, plus speed and a quick first step. He moves fluidly both in center field and at second base and projects to be a plus defender with above-average arm strength at both spots. Gray is less raw as a hitter than most two-sport athletes. He has a balanced, mechanically-sound swing and uses his hands well. He is still developing feel for the barrel and often makes soft contact, but he shows flashes of impact and could grow into average power as he fills out his frame. He is the stepson of Riverside (Calif.) JC coach Rudy Arguelles and has solid baseball instincts. Gray needs reps to refine his swing, but his athleticism gives him an upside as high as any player on the West Coast. He is committed to UCLA to play both football and baseball and will command a large signing bonus.
