A one-time catcher, Metzinger has proven to be an above-average defender at third base who handled the position well enough to fill in at shortstop when Christian Knapczyk was sidelined. The senior had his best season at the plate for Louisville as he tapped into his previously unrealized power. Metzinger hit 19 home runs this year while posting a .312/.427/.591 slash line. He had hit five home runs in his first three seasons with the Cardinals. Metzinger has above-average bat speed, but his power is average at best. He takes big hacks, but over his Louisville career he’s steadily improved his bat-to-ball skills and he knows how to take a walk.
