A pitcher who posts a 5.68 ERA in the Ivy League doesn’t seem like a potential draftee, but in Walsh’s case, the potential of what he could be may be enough for a team to take a late-round flier. A starter at Yale, Walsh has looked better as a reliever in the Cape Cod League this summer following his spring season. Walsh generates well above-average spin rates (up to 2,800 rpm) on his 92-93 mph fastball, which sets up a frisbee-like, above-average slider that gets significant sweep.
