Will Rudy

A third-year freshman who lost two seasons to the coronavirus pandemic, Rudy won a spot in Cal Poly Pomona's rotation this spring and proved to be one of the better Division II pitchers in the country. He struck out at least 10 batters in four different starts and finished the year 8-1, 3.10 with 96 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 87.1 innings. Rudy is a converted shortstop who is relatively new to pitching and has lots of room for growth. His fastball sits 90-92 mph with armside run and sink, and his slider with 10-to-4 break shows above-average potential. He also shows feel for a nascent changeup that has fringe-average potential. Rudy is a good athlete with a clean delivery and a fluid arm action. He fills up the strike zone and should continue to add velocity as he matures. Rudy tired at the end of the season and still has to build innings and durability. He requires a bit of projection, but his fresh arm, athletic delivery and intriguing pitch mix has him on radars as a potential day two draft pick.
