Chase Meidroth

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound second baseman, Meidroth dealt with shoulder injuries that limited him to just six games for San Diego during the 2021 season, but he came back healthy and performed at a high level this spring. He hit .329/.440/.544 with 10 home runs, 19 doubles and far more walks (40) than strikeouts (25). He showed similar plate discipline in Northwoods League last summer, when he hit .345/.471/.437 with 40 walks and just 13 strikeouts. Meidroth is a small hitter who uses a line-drive swing with average bat speed to make lots of contact and spray the ball into the gaps. He stands close to the plate and consistently puts the bat on the ball. His home run power is almost exclusively to his pull side, and his exit velocities and lack of physical projection suggest well below-average power once he starts swinging a wood bat. He is a below-average runner who is best at second base. Meidroth turns 21 only a few days after the draft and will project well on draft models that value contact, approach and youth. He projects to be taken inside the top 10 rounds on the draft's second day.
