In 2021, Brutti injured his back while swinging a bat, causing him to miss his junior season that was already shortened because of the pandemic. He came back in the summer and reached the low 90s, but his fastball has taken off this year. Brutti now sits at 92-95 mph with his sinker, touches 97 mph and holds his velocity deep into his outings. His slider is an inconsistent pitch, often flashing average but at times sweeping across the zone with deep lateral break to give glimpses of a potential plus pitch. Brutti throws a changeup, but it’s behind his other stuff and he hasn’t needed to use it much. Brutti’s delivery has a reliever look with considerable effort, which in turn leads to times of erratic command. There could be more velocity still coming, with a chance for him to develop into an upper-90s power arm out of the bullpen, though he should develop as a starter, whether it’s in pro ball or in college at South Florida, where he would be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2024 if he gets to campus. As a Northeast pop-up arm, Brutti’s games have had some of the heaviest scouting traffic among players in the area this year.
