Carico was a part-time player for Davidson during the 2021 season, when he hit .219/.380/.301 over 29 games. He broke out in a massive way during the 2022 season, when he slashed .406/.559/.843 with 21 home runs, 21 doubles, led Division I hitters in OBP and made Baseball America’s All-America third team. Injuries limited Carico to just 21 games during his junior season in 2023, but he still performed and hit .350/.514/.688 with seven home runs, a 15.9% walk rate and a 13.1% strikeout rate. Listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Carico has raw power that comes from a steep, fly ball-oriented swing and exceptional contact rates and zone recognition skills against Atlantic 10 Conference competition. However, Carico faced only 22 pitches that were 93 mph or harder in 2022, per Synergy, in a 1,162-pitch sample. During the summer with Team USA he swung-and-missed more frequently and also expanded the zone more often against better pitching and went hitless in nine at-bats with the national team training roster, with six strikeouts and no walks. Carico moves well behind the plate with solid actions and receiving ability, and he also moves well laterally and blocks well when not in a one-knee setup. He has a chance to be a fringe-average defender with solid arm strength.
