A Dominican-born pitcher who moved to Georgia Premier Academy (the same program that produced Cleveland righthander Daniel Espino), Tejada jumped on the scene last fall with massive arm talent and a fastball he was running up to 97-98 mph. Listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds, Tejada pitches in the mid 90s early in his outings before tapering off to the low 90s later in outings, but the pitch explodes on hitters and can be overpowering when he’s throwing it for strikes. He has also shown a 77-80 mph curveball with 12-to-6 shape, solid depth and big spin rates—2,600-2,700 rpm—but he has shown a tendency to slow his arm on the pitch. Strikes have been a concern with Tejada, as he’s scattered with both his fastball and breaking ball, and he doesn’t show a changeup frequently, either. Because of that, there’s some reliever risk for the Northwest Florida State JC commit, but he has one of the livelier fastballs in the prep class.
