Arden Pabst

As the catcher for 2012 first-rounders Lucas Giolito and Max Fried, Pabst has been known to scouts for awhile. His mature 6-foot-1, 200-pound body is durable but lacks projection, and he has a muscle-bound swing with some length to it. He has shown the ability to get on top of average velocity and hit balls to the middle of the field, and his pitch recognition is decent. He could become a fringy hitter with fringy power down the road. But his defense behind the plate is a question mark. He's a rigid defender whose hands and feet don't work great behind the plate, and scouts see him as a below-average defender with a fringy arm. Some scouts still see him as a potential eighth- to 10th-round candidate, while others are content to let him go to Georgia Tech.
