The switch-hitting shortstop last year at Central Florida posted a .252/.342/.510 slash line with nine doubles and 15 home runs. He has above-average power from the left side, but both his pitch recognition skills and contact ability will need to improve. Faurot has the defensive chops to stick at shortstop long term. -

Faurot has gotten plenty of scouting attention late this spring as a projectable, switch-hitting infielder with solid tools. Listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Faurot has a great body that has plenty of room to fill out, with above-average speed and above-average arm strength. He is a switch-hitter who has a more natural swing from the left side than the right, and below-average raw power now from both sides—however, that raw power should continue to improve as he physically matures. Last summer, he showed a swing with moving parts from both sides of the plate, including a big leg kick to get started, a high back elbow and some swing-and-miss tendencies. This spring, scouts have liked the improvements they have seen with his bat, and he hit five home runs with Florida State University High in Tallahassee with an average above .400. A shortstop now, Faurot has also played center field and could move around the diamond and play either second or third depending on how his body develops and if his glovework improves. Faurot was also a high school quarterback. He is committed to Central Florida but has gotten enough attention that it wouldn’t be surprising to see him taken inside the top three rounds.
