The son of star slugger Mark McGwire, Mason displays his power on the mound. He can touch 95 mph with his fastball, but he's unable to maintain that velocity as of yet. He'll touch the mid-90s early in outings but settles in to pitch at 86-91 mph. His breaking ball is relatively rudimentary and his control is below-average. McGwire has a lot of room for growth with a projectable, 6-foot-3 frame and should be able to better maintain his velocity as he fills out and gets stronger. He is committed to Saddleback (Calif.) JC.
