Johnson began his college career at Columbia State (Tenn.) JC before transferring to Mississippi after the 2020 season. In 2022, he established himself as the Rebels’ closer and helped them to the national championship. He earned 12 saves and struck out 71 batters in 41.2 innings. He relies primarily on his fastball, which sits in the mid 90s and gets up to 98 mph. He mixes in a slider that has some bite to it. He can get swings and misses, but has fringy control.
