Kohlhepp in 2019 began his college career at Tennessee before transferring to Iowa Western JC and then Notre Dame, where he broke out in 2021. Working as a relief ace, he averaged nearly three innings an appearance and his 3.08 ERA ranked fifth in the ACC. He mostly attacks hitters with a fastball that has some sinking action and plays up thanks to his funky arm action. He can touch the upper 90s with the pitch, but typically sits around 93 mph. He mixes in a biting slider.
