One of the most versatile players in the country, Carigg played shortstop, second base, third base, catcher, left field, center field and even pitched over three seasons at San Diego State. He hit .333/.429/.556 while playing standout defense in center field for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League last summer and entered the year considered a potential first-round pick, but he suffered a shoulder injury and a concussion and fell down draft boards as he struggled to do damage at the plate. Carigg is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound switch-hitter who is an excellent athlete but whose baseball skills are raw. He is an aggressive swinger who frequently chases outside the strike zone and primarily hits the ball on the ground. He makes soft contact from both sides of the plate and relies on using his plus speed to beat out ground balls. He projects to be a below-average hitter with well below-average power, although he has flashed some ability to get into a ball to his pullside. Carigg shows impressive tools defensively and can play multiple positions. He’s a plus runner with plus-plus arm strength and flashes above-average defense in center field, but he plays out of control at times and lacks instincts. Carigg is more raw than most college players and needs refinement in player development. His versatility and athleticism give him a chance to be a utilityman.
