Morningstar assumed a meaningful role as a freshman and struck out 38 strikeouts across 29 innings. This spring, he slid into the weekend rotation and pitched to a 3.87 ERA with 93 strikeouts to 32 walks across 79 innings. A strong and physical righthander, Morningstar has an ultra-long and whippy arm stroke. He throws two fastballs—a four-seam and two-seam—and both sit in the low 90s and have been up to 97 mph with life through the zone. Morningstar pairs his heater with a low-80s curveball that flashes plus with depth and sharp, two-plane tilt. He rounds out his arsenal with an upper-80s cutter and a mid-to-upper-80s changeup that both generate their fair share of empty swings. -

Morningstar took on a meaningful role as a reliever in his 2024 freshman season at Wake Forest, but he was burned by the long ball, allowing 10 home runs in just 29 innings. He allowed the same number of homers in more than twice the innings (79) as a sophomore, lowering his ERA to 3.87 in the process. Age At Draft: 18.3
Morningstar has a strong build at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and a power approach on the mound. He has long arm action, cranks his elbow up high and throws with some effort in his mechanics to produce a fastball that sits in the low 90s and has touched 95 mph. He’s able to generate a good amount of empty swings on his fastball, especially when he pitches at the top of the zone. Morningstar shows feel to spin a breaking ball that has good bite to it at times, often with three-quarter break between a slider and a true curveball. There are times where he has shown feel for a changeup with good sink and fade, but he rarely uses that pitch. He has been a solid strike-thrower, though with more control than command. Morningstar’s mechanics have some scouts projecting him as a potential reliever, but his stuff will afford him a chance to start, especially if he can develop a third pitch.
