  Beard pitched his way to a 3.14 ERA with an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 118-to-32 across 86 innings. If it wasn’t for Charlotte righthander Blake Gillespie, Beard would have taken home AAC pitcher of the year honors. He attacks from a straight over-the-top slot and a tough-to-pick-up 6-foot-9 release height. Beard’s fastball sits in the low 90s, but it jumps out of his hand and has plenty of natural carry up in the zone. He does an outstanding job of maintaining his arm speed on his mid-70s changeup that gets fantastic separation off his heater, and it’s an unbelievably difficult change of pace for opposing hitters. It’s a plus pitch that flashes consistent tumble. Beard also features a mid-70s curveball that flashes big-time depth and downward bite, as well as a mid-to-upper-70s that is distinct in shape with lateral life.

He posted a 3.14 ERA over 14 starts (86 innings) with 118 strikeouts—14th in the country—a 34.4% strikeout rate and a 9% walk rate. A 6-foot-2, 185-pound lefthander, Beard transferred to Florida State for the 2026 season. He attacks from a straight-over-the-top slot and a tough-to-pick-up 6-foot-9 release height. Beard’s fastball sits in the low 90s, but it jumps out of his hand and has plenty of natural carry up in the zone. He does an outstanding job of maintaining his arm speed on his mid-70s changeup.   Beard is a projection lefthander with a lean, 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame that looks like it can add plenty of good weight in the next few years. He has good balance on the mound and throws from an almost straight over-the-top arm slot. Beard mostly works in the upper 80s with his fastball, and he also mixes in a low-70s curveball with 12-to-6 shape and tons of depth. He also throws a changeup that floats over the plate in the low-to-mid 70s. Because of Beard’s lack of current velocity, pro teams might be inclined to let him reach campus at Florida Atlantic. Still, he shows the makings of a solid lefty starter when he adds more strength and power.
