BA Grade: 50/Extreme

Gregory-Alford is a power-framed pitcher with power stuff to match. A physically developed 6-foot-5, 235-pound righthander, he regularly pitched in the mid 90s during the showcase circuit in 2023 and consistently reached back for 97-98 mph. His heater is one of the loudest in the prep class and he also showed triple-digit velocity during the 2024 spring season. He throws the pitch with tons of arm speed, and it also features running armside life that will make it even more of a headache for opposing batters. Gregory-Alford’s slider is equally advanced and consistently sits in the mid 80s with a fastball look out of his hand before snapping off with impressive late tilt to dive under barrels. He has used the pitch for whiffs in the zone and chases below it. The plus fastball/slider combo is Gregory-Alford’s bread and butter, but he’s also mixed in the occasional mid-80s changeup that will need to improve significantly to get to the same level. Gregory-Alford has a track record as a scattered strike-thrower, but he did a nice job cleaning up his delivery over the offseason and threw solid strikes this spring. There’s still a bit of reliever risk, but less than there was six months ago. Gregory-Alford is committed to Virginia but is a top-three rounds talent.

Track Record: Gregory-Alford carried a strong summer showcase circuit and Team USA performance into a solid spring as a Colorado prep arm in 2024, then touched 99.7 mph at the draft combine. The Angels monitored his progress heavily over the scouting cycle and signed him to a record $1,957,500 bonus for an 11th-round pick to lure him away from a Virginia commitment. He didn’t debut after the draft, focusing instead on strength gains and pitch design in bullpen sessions.
Scouting Report: Gregory-Alford is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound righthanded power arm with big arm strength and arm speed. He works primarily off of his mid-90s fastball that has touched 100. It gets on hitters in a hurry due to solid extension and the angle he creates, though it has limited life. He complements his heater with a hard, mid-80s slider with late break that can miss bats in and out of the zone and has plus potential. He rarely used his nascent, mid-80s changeup in high school, and it lags behind his two other offerings. Gregory-Alford has a clean delivery but can sometimes rush his quick-tempo pace. That leads to inconsistent mechanics and strike-throwing, something the Angels have focused on improving after the draft by adding more strength and repeatability.
The Future: It’s easy to dream on Gregory-Alford’s physique and potential midrotation upside if his strike-throwing and changeup develop. If not, his two-pitch power arsenal could one day play in relief.

Gregory-Alford is a power-framed righthanded pitcher with power stuff to match. Listed at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, Gregory-Alford regularly pitched in the mid 90s during the showcase circuit and reared back for 97-98 and has even scraped triple digits early in 2024 in bullpens. The fastball is thrown with plenty of arm speed and also features arm-side running life. He throws a slider in the mid 80s that looks like the fastball out of his hand before snapping off with impressive tilt and diving under barrels for misses inside the zone and chases below it. He’s mostly been a two-pitch pitcher and that plus his scattered control will add reliever risk, so improving his command and developing a third pitch are key action items. Gregory-Alford is young for the class and committed to Virginia.
