Davis had some draft interest last spring, but he wound up making it to Louisville and fared well hitting in the middle of the Cardinals' lineup. In an every day role, Davis hit .283/.390/.571 with nine doubles, a team-leading 18 home runs and 52 RBIs. At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Davis has an impressive frame with plenty of natural strength. His calling card is his comfortably-plus raw power—which grades out as a 70 to the pull side—and he posted multiple exit velocities north of 115 mph this spring. However, there are some whiff and chase issues, particularly against spin, and Davis is a clear power-over-hit profile. While his power is immense, the key for Davis going forward will be continuing to make enough contact to enable him to get to it consistently in games. -

Age At Draft: 18.8
Davis is the son of seven-year big leaguer Ben Davis who was picked No. 2 by the Padres in the 1995 draft. While Tague doesn’t have that sort of upside as a high schooler, he does have real potential as both a hitter and a pitcher at the same Malvern Prep school his father attended three decades prior. As a hitter Davis is a corner profile likely limited to first base with a strong 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame, but he could grow into plus raw power and hits impressive fly balls over the fence to the pull side routinely in batting practice. It’s an aggressive swing with lots of bat speed but also some length that create holes and lead to contact questions, but with more refinement in his approach Davis could be a middle-of-the-order type masher at the next level. On the bump Davis has a high leg kick and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot where he pitches in the upper 80s and will touch 91-92. He has thrown a mid-70s slurvy breaking ball that could become a true slider with more refinement and a changeup around 80. Davis is committed to Louisville.
