Drafted: Never Drafted
Mendes struck out 43 across 31.2 innings as a freshman, and while he had an up-and-down 2025, Mendes managed to collect 90 strikeouts across 78 innings. His fastball sits in the low 90s and has been up to 96 mph, but it plays well in the top half of the zone thanks to its carrying life. While Mendes’ gyro slider generates its fair share of empty swings, his most effective secondary offering is his high-70s changeup. It consistently flashes plus and plays well off his heater with both some fade to the arm side as well as tumble. It garnered an impressive 52% whiff rate and 31% chase rate. -

Mendes is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound lefthander who spent a season with Ole Miss, primarily pitching out of the bullpen, before transferring to Florida State in 2025 where he moved into a full-time starter role. Across two college seasons, Mendes has a 5.91 ERA in 109.2 innings with a 26.9% strikeout rate and 12.2% walk rate. Commit/Drafted: Mississippi
Age At Draft: 18.8
Mendes has a promising fastball for his age, reaching the low 90s from a compact arm stroke into a three-quarter slot. The late riding life to his fastball helps it play up, as Mendes pitches aggressively at the top of the zone and misses a lot of bats with his fastball when he elevates, with the physical projection to throw in the mid 90s eventually. He throws a curveball and a changeup, and shows solid feel for his curveball at times, but his fastball is his best offering. Mendes has been an inconsistent strike-thrower, but his athleticism bodes well for him to make adjustments. A two-way player in high school who also plays outfield, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound southpaw could take big steps forward once he focuses exclusively on pitching. He is committed to Mississippi.
