School: Virginia Drafted/Committed: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 22.6
After two years as a key reliever in Virginia’s bullpen where he posted sub-3.00 ERAs while throwing 37.2 and 34 innings, Woolfolk struggled to move into the rotation in 2024 and eventually ended up back in the bullpen. He went undrafted and returned to Virginia for his senior season. This time, the move to the rotation clicked, as he went 4-3, 4.73 with 75 strikeouts and 24 walks in 64.2 innings while serving as the Friday starter for much of the season. Woolfolk sits 91-93 mph with a four-seam fastball that lacks life, but he can reach back for 95-96 at times. His 83-85 mph slider is a more effective pitch than his fastball, as he can generate chases out of the zone and get some swings and misses in the strike zone. His 82-84 mph changeup pairs reasonably well with his fastball.

Woolfolk was the 2019 Gatorade player of the year in Virginia, then made it to campus in Charlottesville where he has led Virginia in appearances in 2022 and 2023 while posting a cumulative 2.89 ERA and 28.4% strikeout rate out of the bullpen. He then pitched for Team USA over the summer and in 2024 pitched as a starter at the beginning of the season where he struggled before moving back into a bullpen role for most of the rest of the season—though he did turn in a pair of quality starts in June against Mississippi State and Kansas State. A 6-foot, 200-pound righthander, Woolfolk attacks hitters with a 91-95 mph fastball that touches 97 and mixes in three secondaries: a mid-80s slider with short biting action, a mid-80s changeup and an upper-80s cutter that was less frequently used this spring. Woolfolk’s below-average control and track record this spring as a starter likely indicate a future bullpen role.
