Name: Tim Hummel
Born: Nov 18, 1978 in Goshen, N.Y. USA
College: Old Dominion
Ht.: 6'2" / Wt.: 195 lbs
Bats: R / Throws: R
Drafted in the 2nd round (52nd overall) by the Chicago White Sox in 2000 (signed for $645,000)
Hummel put together a solid college season, hitting .405-8-63 and earning player of the year honors in the Colonial Athletic Association. He's seen as a poor-man's Cal Ripken--a steady but not flashy player who makes everything look easy. He has an excellent approach to the game, seldom taking a false step. He's been a shortstop all his life and has enough arm for the position, though most clubs don't believe he has enough range. He may not have enough power for third base, his likely destination, even though he should be a solid run producer.
