View Draft Report
Day spent the past two seasons as Missouri’s shortstop, with his senior 2022 season seeing him transform from being an easy out to a solid offensive contributor. He hit .250/.374/.316 in 2021 and .332/.425/.503 in 2022. He had more home runs (seven) this year than he had extra-base-hits (six) in 2021. While Day was much better at the plate, he projects as an org player in pro ball. He’s more likely to play second base or third base everyday in pro ball thanks to slow reactions and limited range. His below-average hit tool and power isn’t a great fit as a starter, but his experience and defensive versatility could make him a utilityman as a professional.

It’s a great year for Mississippi juco shortstops, as Day has battled Bryson Ware of Pearl River (Miss.) JC for the attention of scouts. Day is less likely than Ware to stick at shortstop long-term. He shows plenty of range and excellent athleticism, but his average arm might fit better at second base or in center field. Day is a power/speed prospect with plus raw power and plus-plus speed. His swing needs to be cleaned up and limits his projection as a hitter—he hit .267/.393/.489 for Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) CC in the shortened season. Day is coachable and impresses scouts with his heady play. He’s signed with Missouri.
