Smith is a big righthander with a 6-foot-5, 225-pound frame. He attends the same high school as shortstop prospect and potential first-rounder Walker Martin, so he’ll benefit from the halo effect this spring, though he is a solid pitching prospect in his own right. At the 2022 Area Code Games Smith showed a swing-and-miss fastball in the 90-92 mph range, though his command of the pitch was below-average. He also threw an upper-70s-to-lower-80s breaking ball that blended in shape between a curve and a slider, and has mixed in a few mid-80s changeups. His size and arm strength could entice teams to sign him out of an Oregon State commitment, though that could prove difficult. Smith will be 19 on draft day and if he makes it to campus, he’ll be a draft-eligible sophomore in th 2025 class.
