Known for his athleticism and multi-sport background, the 6-foot-3 195-pound lefthanded hitter will have to decide if he wants to take snaps under center at Northwestern as well as bringing his baseball talent to Evanston—or begin a pro career now. Standing with an upright stance, Lausch has a compact swing, with more of a level path allowing him to cover all areas of the strike zone. He has shown the ability to drive the ball gap to gap and leave the park going the other way. His spin recognition is solid for a high school hitter, and he demonstrates good plate discipline. Holding down center field, Lausch’s instincts are present with good reads off the bat and range to cover the ground required to stay there—at least in the near future. As he continues to mature physically a corner outfield spot may be his best bet, with first base as an option as well. It’s always difficult to sign a multi-sport athlete out of high school. However, if a team can pull it off, it will be landing an explosive athlete with plenty of upside remaining.
