School: South Carolina Drafted/Committed: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.1
BA Grade: 50/High
Petry became the centerpiece of South Carolina’s lineup during his freshman season in 2023 and he has been a mainstay and source of consistent offense for three seasons. He’s a career .336/.462/.661 hitter with 54 home runs, a 21.9% strikeout rate and a 14.6% walk rate. Petry is an imposing presence in the box with a big league frame at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds. He swings with plenty of intent and uses a modified toe-tap that leads to a normal stride with a righthanded swing that can get a bit lengthy. Petry’s double-plus raw power is among the best in the 2025 class and leads to eye-opening top-end exit velocities as well as home runs to all fields. That has traditionally come with strikeout rates in the 20-25% range for him, though during his junior season Petry showed a shifted approach that led to more swings, more chases and more contact across the board. While he cut his strikeout rate to a career-best 17.4%, that also came with the lowest home run output of his career, albeit still with excellent underlying batted-ball data. Finding a happy medium between those approaches will be key, because Petry is a bat-first prospect with limited defensive value and little speed. Petry has primarily played right field in college but also has experience in left field and at first base. He’s a well below-average runner and athlete who might be destined for first base, where an above-average arm won’t move the needle as much.
Scouting Grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 65 | Run:30 | Field: 40 | Arm: 55.

BA Grade/Risk: 50/High
Petry was the centerpiece of a talented South Carolina lineup as a true freshman in 2023 and a big reason for its run to a super regional. As a household name in 2024, he again had a productive season and hit .306/.471/.639 with 21 home runs and 53 RBIs. Petry is physical at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds. He has a quiet setup in the box with an open front side and high handset. Petry uses a modified toe tap that leads into a normal stride, though his hands drop and drift, and his swing can get long at times. While he’s a finished product physically, Petry has 70-grade raw power. He’s a power-over-hit righty bat with a tendency to expand the strike zone, especially against spin. Petry has an above-average arm in right field but seems destined for first base in the long run. Even so, Petry’s bat is loud enough to place him in the first round.

School: Cypress Creek HS, Wesley Chapel, Fla. Committed/Drafted: South Carolina
Age At Draft: 18.1
Petry is a physical righthanded hitter with a 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame who showed impressive timing and strength in the batter’s box during the showcase circuit. He has solid raw power now and could grow into plenty more in the future, but at times has also shown a bit of a shoulder drop in the back of his swing, with a steep bat path that could lead to swing-and-miss issues. Petry has a strong arm from the left side of the infield and is a solid athlete and below-average runner who should fit at a corner in some capacity with enough power to profile there. This spring with Cypress Creek High, Petry led the team in both hitting on and strikeouts on the mound, showing a fastball that gets up into the mid 90s and a high-spin curveball that has potential as well. He has the stuff to potentially contribute on both sides if he makes it to campus at South Carolina, and he’s also on the younger side for the class.
