A 6-foot lefty without a ton of physical projection, Waters doesn’t have a typical look for a pitching prospect teams draft out of high school, but hitters swing through his fastball like it’s invisible. His fastball sits in the low 90s, touches 94 mph and has huge carry to fly past barrels and consistently generate swinging strikes. Waters befuddles hitters by elevating with his fastball and then dropping a low-80s splitter with heavy tumble that plays well off his heater. His slider is a relatively lower-spin breaking ball but he executes it well with shorter break. A Texas commit, Waters could make an immediate impact as a freshman if he makes it to campus.
