Carrera is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound righthander with tantalizing pure arm talent who comes with real control questions. He’s a powerfully-built pitcher who gets down the mound effectively and throws with quick arm speed from a three-quarters slot. Carrera was consistently pushing into the mid 90s with his fastball in 2024 and has ticked up to reach 97 mph at peak in the spring of 2025. His fastball checks in with high spin rates and better pure spin than his upper-70s, slurvy breaking ball. While Carrera has an easy plus fastball projection, he needs to improve his breaking pitch to get it to an average secondary. He’ll also mix in a low-80s changeup that could become a serviceable offspeed offering to complement his fastball. Because of Carrera’s below-average strike-throwing, he carries a lot of reliever risk, which could ultimately lead him to campus at Indiana. His pure stuff is good enough to fit on talent inside the top 10 rounds, if a team is willing to bet on Carrera’s massive arm and impressive fastball quality.
