A redshirt sophomore who spent two seasons at Spartanburg Methodist before transferring to USC Upstate, Phillips emerged as the Spartans’ ace, going 7-2, 3.64 while taking the ball for the team’s biggest games. He threw a complete-game shutout to get USC Upstate an opening win in the Big Sky Tournament. The next week, he held his own against Clemson in the NCAA tournament, allowing three runs on six hits with one walk while striking out nine in six innings. Phillips has transferred to South Carolina for the 2026 season if he doesn’t sign, and as a redshirt sophomore he has options. He’s a fastball-slider pitcher who sits 92-94 mph with above-average riding life on his fastball. His 79-81 mph slider will need to develop more depth or power in pro ball, but he is a solid strike-thrower with room to fill out more.
