Gordon is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound righthander who pitched as a reliever in his 2022 freshman season with Campbell before a solid transition to the starting rotation in 2023. He’s taken a bit of a step backward in 2024 and bounced between starting and relieving with his control slipping compared to his first two seasons. Gordon has a great pitcher’s frame and throws from a three-quarter slot with some effort, and averages 92-93 with a fastball that will touch 97. He throws two breaking balls: the first a short-biting slider in the mid-to-upper 80s that looks like a cutter at times and the second a slower curveball in the upper 70s with significantly more depth. Gordon will also toss in a mid-80s changeup down and to his arm side, but it’s a rarely used fourth pitch.

Track Record: Gordon was solid as a sophomore in Clemson’s rotation, but a bout with mononucleosis as a junior pushed him back to the Tigers’ bullpen, where he became one of the nation’s top closers in 2024. That led to the Angels drafting him in the fourth round. The Angels deployed him as a starter in his pro debut in 2025 over 84.1 innings and 21 starts. His 25.3% strikeout rate and 7.2% walk rate painted a rosier picture than his 5.44 ERA.
Scouting Report: Gordon is a long-limbed, loose-moving 6-foot-5 righthander who can locate his four-pitch arsenal. His 92-93 mph fastball has modest ride and run and can touch 97 in shorter stints. He spins two separate breaking balls: a mid-80s slider and an upper-70s curveball that he can vary in power. His rarely used mid-80s changeup lags behind the rest of his secondaries. Gordon lacks a true putaway pitch, instead relying on sequencing, his above-average control and a deceptively athletic double-pump delivery.
The Future: Gordon has the size, repertoire and pitchability to fit into the back of a rotation, though his chances of reaching that ceiling would improve if he can find a true swing-and-miss pitch to put batters away. He has a fallback as a low-leverage multi-inning reliever.
