McCarthy is a 6-foot, athletic righthander with a simple, repeatable delivery and a strong fastball for his age. He can already dial his fastball up to 97 mph, and he throws the pitch for strikes at a high clip. McCarthy pitches heavily off his fastball, complementing it with a sharp slider and a lively changeup with good sink and fade. The slider is a lower-spin breaking ball, but it has good depth and solid tilt. With the ability to manipulate multiple secondary pitches, McCarthy has a starter look between his delivery, control and quality three-pitch mix.
