Soler is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound lefthander and outfielder with great projection who teams likely prefer as a pitcher at the next level. His father, Alay, made eight starts with the Mets in 2006 after pitching five seasons in the Cuban National League. Alan is a fluid mover on the mound with an athletic operation and clean, three-quarters arm slot. Soler has a fastball that typically tops out around 92 mph and will sit around 89-90, though most expect more velocity to come as he fills out his lean frame. He’s shown solid ability to land a low-80s changeup that has plus potential and also has a 77-80 mph slurvy slider that could become a solid third pitch and round out his arsenal. Scouts also have confidence that Soler will become an above-average strike-thrower thanks to the ease of his delivery and with how athletic he is on the mound. He had potential upside in the first five rounds, but he was injured in the spring and had Tommy John surgery, which will complicate his draft status. He’s committed to Central Florida.
