Boles is a broad-shouldered righthander with a 6-foot-5, 200-pound frame and an exciting three-pitch mix. His fastball and slider are his best pitches currently. Boles sits in the low 90s and has been up to 95 mph with his fastball and throws his two-plane breaking slider in the low to mid 90s. Both pitches have earned plus projections, and he’s also flashed feel for a mid-80s changeup that could become a reliable third offering and average pitch. Boles has also thrown a slower curveball in the mid 70s but it lags behind the slider. He hails from a St. Augustine High program that hasn’t seen a player drafted since 1970 when the Giants took righthander John D’Acquisto in the first round.
