Catalano was one of coach Skip Johnson’s most prized recruits, and he showed exactly why this spring to the tune of a 4.00 ERA with 35 strikeouts to just nine walks across 27 innings. A 6-foot righthander, Catalano has a shorter arm stroke and features a fastball that has been up to 96 mph with cut and carry, as well as a pair of effective breaking balls in a mid-to-upper-70s curveball and an upper-70s-to-low-80s slider. Catalano’s ability to command the baseball helps his arsenal play up, and next spring he projects to earn a role within the Sooners’ weekend rotation.
