Track Record: Chourio was unquestionably the biggest surprise in the Royals’ system in 2025 after the club signed him out of Venezuela for $247,500 in January. International signings rarely reach the U.S. the same year they sign, but Chourio not only crossed over from the Dominican Summer League—he then advanced past the Arizona Complex League after three starts. He finished his whirlwind season with Low-A Columbia, where he took regular rotation turns for the Carolina League champions. The 17-year-old Chourio showed pinpoint control and preternatural composure at all three levels, walking just five in 51.1 innings.
Scouting Report: Chourio’s four-seam fastball averaged 95 mph and touched 98 with riding life, which is especially impressive considering his smaller 6-foot, 160-pound stature. He uses his lean strength and athleticism to consistently throw strikes, and he pounded the zone with his heater in 2025. While Chourio can run his fastball into the upper 90s with ease, the Royals preferred to see him sit in the mid 90s. He pairs the fastball with a sharp 78 mph curveball that has high spin rates and downward movement. It’s a potentially plus offering. Chourio rounds out his arsenal with an effective 87 mph fading changeup that has plus potential. Scouts lauded Chourio’s advanced pitchability for his age. He repeats his three-quarters arm slot well and should have little issue maintaining his mechanics as he adds strength because of his body control.
The Future: After Chourio moved more quickly than expected, the Royals could pump the brakes on his ascension through the Class A levels. Even so, his early-career success and polish could help him reach Double-A before he turns 19. He has the upside of a No. 2 or 3 starter.

Track Record: Much like Ramcell Medina, Chourio enters the Royals’ system with his stock trending up. The righthander was one of the top pitchers available out of the Dominican Republic thanks to a combination of present stuff and pitchability.
Scouting Report: Chourio has a mix of three potentially above-average pitches, led by fastball that already bumps 96 mph. His curveball shows sharp, tight break and his changeup is ahead of most of the versions thrown by his peers. That repertoire gives him a high ceiling as a starting pitching prospect who misses plenty of bats.
The Future: Chourio will begin his career in the Dominican Summer League and has the stuff and savvy to fit in a big league rotation one day.
