Van Cleave is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound outfielder and lefthanded hitter who has an appealing package of tools with present strength, raw power and speed. His tools and physicality are more impressive than his game skill at the moment, which is raw on both sides of the ball. Van Cleave has a tendency to pull out in his swing and will need to learn to go with the ball to the opposite field. When he connects, he can drive the ball hard, and he has the sort of bat speed, strength and physical projection to dream of big power numbers if and when he adds polish to his hit tool. He gets out of the box in a hurry and will turn in above-average run times from home to first. He turned in a 6.5-second 60-yard dash time at PBR’s Super 60 showcase in February, but shortly after that event he tore his UCL and Tommy John surgery ended his senior season before it could get started. Van Cleave is committed to Kentucky. -
