Mahala is a tooled-up outfielder with a great frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds and upside and athleticism to dream on. He has plenty of bat speed and strength that should allow him to develop above-average raw power from the left side. In order to consistently tap into that power, Mahala will need to refine both his approach and contact ability. His swing can get disconnected at times and he’s overly aggressive with his swing decisions. Mahala shows some ability to adjust within at-bats and will get into a spread stance without a stride in two-strike counts. Mahala is an easy plus runner who clocked the seventh-fastest 60-yard dash (6.57 seconds) at the 2024 East Coast Pro. That speed should allow him to stick in center field, though some scouts note that he also needs to continue making strides with his defensive instincts. Mahala’s natural athleticism gives him some upside, but he’s committed to Virginia and could be a difficult sign. -
