Becker is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound shortstop and righthanded hitter with a well-rounded game who comes from a talented baseball family. His father, Jeff, played baseball at Duke and then two years with Cleveland’s minor league system. His older brother, Eric, is a shortstop at Virginia and one of the better prospects in the 2026 college class. Nick is one of the top prospects from the Northeast in the 2025 class and boasts a clean swing and a chance for an above-average hit tool. He works with a slightly open stance in the box and has good rhythm and an advanced understanding of the zone that allows him to work counts, spit on pitches off the plate and consistently get on plane with lots of hard contact. He’s more of a line-drive contact hitter now, though he does have the sort of physical projection to dream on average game power at physical maturity. Becker is a plus runner who clocked a 6.65 second 60-yard dash at the 2024 East Coast Pro showcase. He has the tools to stick at shortstop with solid actions, footwork and average arm strength that should at least allow him to start at the position at the next level. He profiles as more of a steady, reliable defender than a flashy one. Becker is committed to Virginia, but could get picked in the first three rounds.

Track Record: Becker comes from a strong baseball pedigree. His father Jeff played at Duke before spending time in Cleveland’s minor league system, and his brother Eric is currently a standout shortstop at Virginia and one of the top college prospects for the 2026 draft. Nick was heralded as one of the top prospects in the Northeast at his New Jersey high school and originally committed to join the Cavaliers as well. The Mariners lured him away in the second round of the 2025 draft with a $2.75 million bonus, a hefty $1.11 million over slot.
Scouting Report: Becker’s athleticism shows up immediately, as he’s a plus runner who turned in a 6.65-second 60-yard dash at the 2024 East Coast Pro Showcase. That speed, paired with smooth actions, clean footwork and an average arm, gives him a chance to stick at shortstop. He profiles more as a steady, reliable defender than a flashy one, but should bring consistent, dependable play to the position. Offensively, he offers a clean, efficient swing and the makings of an above-average hit tool. Becker starts from a slightly open stance with good rhythm and an advanced feel for the strike zone, allowing him to control at-bats, lay off close pitches and get on plane for frequent hard contact. His frame and athletic projection leave room for average game power as he physically matures.
The Future: Becker should start the season in Low-A Inland Empire and is one of the young, bright talents the system has to offer.
