Hoffman has spent time at catcher and stood out for his arm strength behind the plate, but his future now looks brightest on the mound. He has a catcher-like arm action and throws a high-spin fastball (2,500-2,800 rpm) up to 94 mph, landing strikes at a high clip and attacking hitters up in the zone to miss bats. Hoffman has shown feel to spin a slider (2,400-2,700 rpm) that flashes sharp bite, enabling him to rack up a high rate of swing-and-miss with his fastball/slider attack. Hoffman has a changeup but rarely uses that pitch.
