Commit/Drafted: Texas Tech
Age At Draft: 18.8
Jones is a physical, 6-foot-2, 205-pound lefthander who has plenty of strength now but room for even more physical gains in the future. He has been up to 94 mph consistently this spring and also shows some feel to spin a good breaking ball. Last fall the pitch was a spike-grip curve that showed impressive depth and finish, though he has mixed in a slider as well. Jones needs to add more polish and improve his control to make the most of his solid stuff. At the 2023 MLB Draft combine, he showed erratic control with all three of his pitches. He was scattered with a 91-93 mph fastball, didn’t land the zone with a low-80s slider much at all and also missed up and to the arm side with a low-80s changeup. Jones is committed to Texas Tech and could make it to campus given his control, but there are scouts who are excited about his pure arm talent and how hard he could throw in the near future.

School: McLennan (Texas) JC Commit/Drafted: Mets ’ 23 (18)
Age At Draft: 19.8
The Mets drafted Jones in the 18th round of the 2023 draft and he became a draft-and-follow player because of that after attending McLennan (Texas) JC for the following season. He remains a projectable lefthander with a 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame though scouts are still waiting on him to take the next step forward. He pitches in the 89-92 mph range with scattered strikes and mixes in a fringe-average slider around 78-81 mph. He’s committed to Oklahoma and viewed as a day three talent. -
