Smejkal pitches in the low 90s with a lively fastball that can reach 94 mph with fast arm speed. It’s a long, winding arm stroke in a delivery that has effort and finishes with a head whack, which creates some challenges for him to consistently repeat his mechanics to throw strikes. Smejkal flashes feel to spin a low-80s slider that’s inconsistent but is a sharp, swing-and-miss pitch when it’s on. He shows feel for a low-80s changeup with sink and run, as well. Smejkal also plays shortstop with a high-contact bat from the right side, though his future in pro ball right now leans more toward the mound.
