School: The Stony Brook (N.Y.) HS Age At Draft: 19.3
Committed: Vanderbilt
Ruiz is a switch-hitting shortstop who dazzles with his glove and posts low swing-and-miss rates at the plate. He’s the best defensive shortstop in the 2026 class, an above-average runner with quick feet, soft hands and smooth actions. An instinctive defender with good body control and quick release, Ruiz has a knack for making the acrobatic, highlight-reel plays but also has a good internal clock to play under control. His coordination is evident in the field and as a hitter, where he rarely swings and misses from either side of the plate. Ruiz typically sprays line drives around the field with gap power, though he has the bat speed to show occasional sneaky pop for his size when he lets it loose. -

At just 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, Ruiz is a smaller hitter who typically sprays line drives around the field with gap power, but he does have the bat speed to show occasional sneaky pop for his size when he lets it loose. In a deep class of high school shortstops, it was Ruiz who was tabbed as Team USA’s starting shortstop on the gold-medal winning 18U National team, where he also hit in the No. 2 spot behind Grady Emerson. Ruiz is committed to Vanderbilt, and will be a draft-eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus.
