Over the course of his spring season at California Baptist and this summer on the Cape, Dumesnil has done plenty to cement himself as one of the household names in next year’s draft class. Dumesnil hit .362/.440/.702 with 40 extra-base hits—including 19 home runs—and 45 RBIs this spring, and he has more than carried that momentum into this summer, as he is hitting .318/.376/.494 with nine extra-base hits, 10 RBIs and a Cape League-leading 19 stolen bases. At 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, Dumesnil is an elite athlete with a pro body. He has a simple and athletic operation in the box with plenty of bat speed and he is more than capable of hammering the baseball to all fields. Dumesnil also has a present feel to hit, and this season he boasted a 90% overall in-zone contact rate, including 93% against fastballs. His quality of each at-bat and pitch recognition skills have drastically improved over the course of the summer. Dumesnil’s combination of speed and athleticism allow him to cover plenty of ground in centerfield, which is where he figures to stick professionally. He has five-tool upside and could be the first Cal Baptist product selected in the first round.
