Dumesnil hit the ground running at California Baptist and hit .333 in 20 games as a freshman in 2023. He leveled up as a sophomore in 2024 when he hit .362 with 19 home runs and 19 doubles, then went to the Cape Cod League and hit well with wood bats for Brewster in 36 games. He regressed a bit in his 2025 draft year when his strikeout rate jumped and his power production fell back slightly, but he still finished his three years with Cal Baptist as a .356/.436/.630 hitter with 29 home runs and 41 stolen bases. Dumesnil is a strong athlete with a filled-out, powerful frame at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. He has real strength and bat speed with a simple righthanded swing that comes with a bit of stiffness and an aggressive approach. Dumesnil has never walked at a high clip and he swings about half the time, with plenty of those swings coming against pitches out of the zone, but he has always hammered fastballs and has solid-average power potential. Dumesnil is a plus runner who has split time in right and center field. He was Cal Baptist’s everyday center fielder in 2025 and has a chance to stick there and be a playable defender with a fringe-average arm, but he could be an above-average or plus defender in a corner.

Track Record: Dumesnil didn’t need time to settle into college baseball. He hit .333 as a freshman at Cal Baptist, then hit .311 in the West Coast League. He was even better in 2024, hitting .362 with 19 home runs. He upped his game again that summer with a wood bat by hitting .311/.377/.489 for Brewster in the Cape Cod League. Dumesnil had a solid 2025 season at Cal Baptist, hitting .360/.442/.498, but evaluators worried about his contact ability and diminished power. His brief pro debut showed solid contact and contact rates, even if his surface-level numbers were poor.
Scouting Report: Dumesnil seemed to struggle to get comfortable at the plate for parts of his junior season, but he made minor adjustments late in the year. His swing has some flexibility, and there’s more power than he showed in 2025 as well. Dumesnil likes to be aggressive early in counts, but he prides himself on his two-strike approach. He is an excellent athlete with strength and plus speed. He could be an average defender in center field and plus on the corners, although he has a fringe-average arm.
The Future: Unlike most eighth-round picks, Dumesnil has MLB starter potential if he manages to reach the top of his ability level. He has a clearer route to being a multi-position backup.

Dumesnil has done plenty to cement himself as one of the household names in the 2025 class between his time with California Baptist and in the Cape Cod League. Dumesnil hit .362/.440/.702 with 40 extra-base hits—including 19 home runs—and 45 RBIs during the 2024 spring season then carried that momentum into the summer. He hit .311/.378/.489 with 16 extra-base hits, 15 RBIs and a Cape-best 26 stolen bases in 36 games with Brewster. At 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, Dumesnil is an elite athlete with a pro body. He has a simple and athletic operation in the box with plenty of bat speed and he is more than capable of hammering the baseball to all fields. Dumesnil has a present feel to hit, and in 2024 boasted a 90% in-zone contact rate, including 93% against fastballs. His at-bat quality and pitch recognition skills drastically improved over the course of the summer. Dumesnil’s combination of speed and athleticism allow him to cover plenty of ground in centerfield, where he should stick professionally. He has five-tool upside and could be the first ever Cal Baptist player selected in the first round.
