Weiss has made huge strides over the last two years. A 6-foot-1, 190-pound lefty who throws from a low slot, Weiss topped out around 90 mph as a sophomore in 2023. Since then, his velocity has consistently inched up to the point where he now sits 91-94 mph and touches 95. While Weiss doesn’t have huge physical projection, he has some intriguing release traits that could help his fastball play up. He throws with a drop-and-drive action in his lower half and has a lower arm slot that creates a lower release point and an uncomfortable at-bat for hitters. He also imparts solid armside run that should help him avoid barrels. Weiss pairs a frisbee-like, sweeping slider with his fastball. The breaking ball has impressive spin rates in the 2,400-2,500 rpm range and is thrown in the mid-to-upper 70s, though it can get a bit slurvy at times. Weiss is primarily a fastball/breaking ball pitcher, but he has the makings of a low-80s changeup that could be a key pitch for him against righties. Scouts were impressed with his athleticism, competitiveness on the mound and strikes this spring, and Weiss outpitched fellow mid-Atlantic pitching prospect Myles Upchurch in a high-profile matchup in April. Weiss is committed to Maryland and is viewed as a tough sign, but he fits on talent in rounds 3-7.

Weiss has taken a significant leap forward as a prospect over the past year. After scraping the low 90s last year, Weiss now pitches in the low 90s and can reach 94 mph with good armside run from his three-quarters slot. His mid-70s slider has good sweep when it is at its best and creates uncomfortable angles for lefties. Weiss is mainly a fastball/breaking ball pitcher but will sprinkle in an occasional changeup. Weiss has a fairly easy delivery but will need to improve his control.
